The USAF has confirmed F-35As will be based at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida.

July 29: The US Air Force has confirmed a proposal to base 59 F-35A aircraft at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida.

The decision is not final and is contingent upon a supplemental environmental impact statement (SEIS) raising no adverse impact to the locality. As well as operating out of Eglin, flight operations would also be conducted at Duke and Choctaw Fields.

The proposal supports the recommendation of the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure Commission to establish the F-35 Initial Joint Training Centre at Eglin. The SEIS is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
